  1. Alternating current

Current which periodically changes direction in an electrical circuit.[Back]

  2. Autotransformer

A transformer with primary and secondary windings that have a common part.[Back]

  3. Current limitor on switching

Limits the high supply currents when switching on a transformer.[Back]

  4. Diëlectric strength

Corresponds with the difference of phase to which a certain medium can resist without it becoming a conductor (breaking down), eg. 3750 Vac can be connected between the Primary and Secondary side of a transformer without it breaking down. [Back]

  5. Direct current

Current which only flows in one direction in an electrical circuit.[Back]

  6. Earthing

A terminal which enables earthing of accessible or non-accessible metall parts of a device. [Back]

  7. Fuse link

Protection device which trips at a specific current, temperature and time and thus interrupts the circuit.[Back]

  8. Frequency

Number of oscillations per second of eg. alternating voltage. [Back]

  9. Isolating transformer

A transformer that has primary and secondary windings electrically isolated bij means of basic insulation, so as to limit, in the circuit fed by the secondary winding, the risks in the event of accidental simultaneous contact with earth and live parts. [Back]

  10. Junction box

Connection box for round and flat cables.[Back]

  11. LED

LIGHT EMITTING DIODE is a semi-conductor device that emits a single colour of light when an electrical current is applied.[Back]

  12. No-load

Functioning of a device without consumer, eg. transformer without lamp.[Back]

  13. Potentiometer

Controllable resistance. Can be connected in such a way that any part of the available voltage can be divided. Voltage distributor.[Back]

  14. Power factor

Relation between active and apparent power. For sinusoidal waves the cos Phi corresponds with the difference of phase between current and tension. [Back]

  15. Primairy

The connection side of an electronic convertor or the winding of transformer to which the supply voltage is connected.[Back]

  16. Protection class

Classification of protection against electrical shocks. [Back]

  17. Protection transformer

An isolating transformer that has primary and secondary windings electrically isolated by means of double or reinforced insulation. [Back]

  18. Rectifier

Device for transforming alternating and direct current.[Back]

  19. Reversible

Possibility to connect the supply voltage on the secondary winding(s) of a transformer and a consumer on the primary windings.[Back]

  20. Safety transformer

A protection transformer to supply safety extra-low voltage circuits (safety voltage smaller than or equal to 50Vms).[Back]

  21. Secondairy

The connection side of an electronic convertor or the winding of a transformer to which the consumer is connected.[Back]

  22. Temperature class

Indicates the maximum temperature up to which insulation materials and systems keep their specific isolating characteristics.[Back]

  23. Voltage regulator

    Device which stabilises the voltage.[Back]

  24. Wire-endsleeves

Metal sleeve covering the end of a flexible conductor to facilitate a terminal connection. [Back]
